YOUR ROLE:

We are looking for someone experienced in the TV/Film/Photography industry to execute creative styling for our studios. Reporting directly to our Creative Director, this stylist will work closely with team members from our Production, Creative, and Marketing Departments as well as perform self-directed work in individual settings. Our ideal candidate has experience on both film and photo sets, establishing and executing set designs and coordinating wardrobe for talent.

The Art and Wardrobe Designer will support the process for video and photo productions by working with the Director and our creative teams in house to present wardrobe and set looks based on script, casting, location, brand guidelines and overall creative direction. They will communicate frequently with talent to schedule fittings, request sizing information etc. in order to ensure both pre-production and production workflow runs smoothly, as well as manage the dressing of talent on set and work with the Director to make final decisions. In Set Design, they will be responsible for the end-to-end execution of our set builds and serve as team lead to other crew members whose job it is to assist with this process. Key functions include set design, equipment/tool sourcing, logisitics management, as well as cost budgeting and tracking.

They will also be responsible for shopping, returns, and rentals for both Art and Wardrobe, as well as working with the production team to coordinate the load in/load out of items on the day of set and ultimately be responsible for keeping inventory and minimizing damage or loss during the filming process.

Our ideal candidate has several years of relevant TV/Film/Photography production experience and approaches each project with an artistry in mind that unites the set and wardrobe choices holistically with their finger on the pulse of new art and fashion trends. They bring a creative freshness to the brand and possess excellent clear communication skills. They take feedback constructively and contribute to an environment of genuine passion for the projects, open communication, and accountability. This is a dynamic, high-volume position that requires a proactive problem solver who is able to prioritize, pivot, and exercise good judgment. This role interacts frequently with various cross-functional teams and stakeholders, therefore strong interpersonal skills, time management, critical thinking and problem solving competencies are crucial.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work closely with Directors, Scriptwriters, and Producers on all aspects of the production’s look, tone, and mood in order to determine the visual foundation, then see it through from ideation to execution across the various stages of the production process. (Ideation, Creative Development, Pre-Prod, and Production)

  • Delegate tasks to relevant Art crew in their day-to-day execution of set builds, staging, styling, and general production aesthetics, ensuring that creative and construction is executed effectively and the intended vision is achieved safely and soundly.

  • Read and interpret treatments/outlines/scripts/shot lists and storyboards in order to determine and present project requirements, review and revise work as necessary in order to gain Director approval, and flag any potential complexity or design issues.

  • Create and distribute inspirational and supplemental artwork, references, mood boards, lookbooks, style guides, and shot lists, showcasing and illustrating the vision and artistic goals to all relevant stakeholders.

  • Attend and participate in all Creative Development, Pre-Production, and approval rounds in order to devise and distribute project maps and plans for all productions

  • Partner closely with Production Management to stay abreast of production schedules, breakdowns, script amendments, casting and location bookings, wardrobe fittings etc, and adjust / pivot as needed.

  • Effectively communicate pertinent information and flow up (to Production stakeholders) and out (to Art crew) ensuring all appropriate parties are current on project developments or issues that arise. (Production plans, schedules, technical issues, budgets, any changes therein)

  • Work with Director and Production Coordinator to oversee, and manage provisional Art and Wardrobe budgets and below-the-line costs, while assigning and managing internal department spend. (ie, Prop Rentals and purchases, Wardrobe,etc. )

  • Source wardrobe, props, and set design elements from various rental houses, company’s existing inventory, online vendors, and local brick and mortar stores.

  • Manage returns and keep track of costs on purchases and rentals, organize and catalog purchases for future use

  • Coordinate wardrobe needs prior to shoots and dress talent on set

  • Attend location scouts ahead of shoots when requested

  • Report and coordinate repairs with Production Management for locations

  • Identify copyright protected pieces at locations and communicate with the team to clear for use

  • Track and manage transport and storage of props and wardrobe to and from set in collaboration with Production Coordinator

  • Organize and keep track of wardrobe, accessories, and set design inventory,including scheduling laundering and dry cleaning

Job requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant TV/film production experience (on and off set)

  • Post Secondary Degree in Film/ Design/ Fine Arts or related field preferred

  • Proven history of managing a team of 5+ team members

  • Thorough knowledge of film production workflows, processes, and pipelines.

  • Strong understanding of design trends, and principles as well as color theory.

  • Deep insight into cultural trends, music, entertainment, travel, and cultural events.

  • Proven experience balancing scene, department, and studio needs.

  • Proficiency in project management and budgeting software (Excel, Smartsheets, Microsoft Office, Google Suite, etc.)

  • Proficiency in production management software (Movie Magic, Celtx, Studio Binder, Shotgun)

  • Exceptional management, communication (verbal and written), and collaboration skills.

  • Strong project management, leadership, time management skills

  • Ability to oversee multiple projects and solve problems in a fast-paced environment

  • Proven experience building, managing, and reporting budgets.

  • Positive attitude and ability to be flexible in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment.
