YOUR ROLE:

We are looking for an experienced and open-minded Montreal-based Writer to conceptualize, develop, and write short-format scripts for VMG productions across our network of studios. In addition to scriptwriting duties, the writer will offer copywriting support to our marketing team on a per need basis. Reporting directly to the Head Scriptwriter, the writer will work with the rest of the team to maintain our standard of the highest quality content and compelling stories that fit into our brand identity.

Our ideal candidate has a strong writing portfolio, thoroughly understands the fundamentals of storytelling and filmmaking language, and is able to conceive high volumes of concepts and write scripts while maintaining quality. They should possess diligent communication and creative problem-solving skills and be adept at adjusting to last minute changes in production.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Researching and developing a high volume of pitches and story concepts.

  • Keeping track of previously written stories and avoiding repeat concepts and/or oversaturated ideas.

  • Writing short-form scripts for a variety of different story types, visual and directing styles.

  • Participation in frequent brainstorming sessions with writing team and/or directors.

  • Easy access communication with the Head Script Writer and Directors

  • Interfacing with the pre-production and production teams on a regular basis regarding the content of your script and the means needed to achieve the final product.

  • Keeping track of the changes on the production schedule and adapting the script accordingly (medium notice changes).

  • Open availability during the production times of your scripts to adapt on a per need basis (last minute changes).

  • Adapting your workflow to fit the needs of our creative and production teams.

  • Assist the marketing team with generating both internal and external facing copy (i.e. press releases, products related descriptions, sales related copy, etc).

  • Proofreading marketing copy.


Job requirements

YOU:

  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant professional writing experience.

  • Post Secondary Degree in Film/ Creative Writing or related field preferred.

  • Scriptwriting Samples

  • Knowledge of film production workflows, processes, and pipelines.

  • Experience with scriptwriting software (Celtx, Final Draft, Studiobinder).

  • Exceptional communication (verbal and written), and collaboration skills.

  • Ability to oversee multiple projects and solve problems in a fast-paced environment.

  • Positive attitude and ability to be flexible in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment.
